Band is a mixed grade performance ensemble. It is open to all students, with or without prior band experience. The class will provide interested Bishop Kelly High School students with opportunities to begin, or continue, their development of instrumental performing skills with an emphasis on community, self-discipline and precision. Band students will perform a wide variety of music within any given year, including traditional, classical, contemporary, and popular music styles. Students will rehearse together, and on their own, to gain a knowledge of and an understanding of the elements of instrumental music. Though students are encouraged to take the class for a full year, it is not a requirement. An extension of the class will be in a variety of school activities including involvement in concerts, festivals, marching band competitions, school athletic events, and other school and community events.
