We tend to take the parables at face value. We tend to be satisfied with a superficial interpretation of the parables. In this class we will address this problem by reflecting on many of Jesus’s most difficult parables. How? By exploring Context and Subtext in collaboration with the Moral Sense. Through close reading, use of outside sources and deeper understanding of the context, we will move beyond the tendency to settle for the superficial.
